The Shepherd
2024
Oil pastels, watercolor and pencil on paper
15x21 cm each
The central image woven into the 23rd psalm is that of the shepherd leading his sheep safely along the paths of life. These drawings depict sheep without a shepherd, lying dead, or a herding dog with rabies.
Sloma began working on this series of drawings during her long days at home with her infant daughter after October 7. The delicate, inventive, and playful drawings result from direct contact, a hand-to-page and mother-daughter connection. While they imply a lost way and fear, the intimacy they offer produces the possibility of hope.
