The Pilgrim’s Progress
2023-2024
six-channel video installation
44 minutes overall duration
Each of the six videos that make up this video installation reflects a verse from the 23rd Psalm - the canonical chapter from the book of Psalms, that is known for the verse “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death”.

Each video is made of a montage of one verse that repeats itself over and over again, in hundreds of different songs and video clips of popular music. Interwoven among the fragments of the songs are sermons, most of which were delivered as part of funerals that were then uploaded to YouTube - for the whole world to watch.
The Pilgrim's Progress (The Valley), short excerpt
The chaotic installation is the product of a laborious craft of collecting and picking. This artwork isn't about the flattening of prayer for the sake of pop culture, but an obsessive search for faith, that fragile and intimate emotion, precisely in the cultivated, industrialized, and loudest areas of culture. In the video, the singers become agents of feelings, and their throats - full of pathos - provide a glimpse of the sentiment of faith.
