The Last
Judgment

2020-2021

Woodcut print

180x300 cm

The Last Judgment is a monumental vertical image, consisting of a grid of sixty square tiles. On a gradient background shifting from black to burgundy to bright red, seventy figures are depicted in a thin white line falling into the underworld. The figures were sampled from a large number of YouTube videos of "fails"—tragicomic slapstick accidents, some in extreme life-threatening situations, as well as Last Judgment descriptions throughout the history of art. Unlike these portrayals, which usually include the possibility of redemption, in Sloma's Last Judgment there is only one option—Hell.
