Boys Throwing Tissue Balls Against a Painting of the Gaza Envelope Landscape

two-channel video installation

Boys Throwing Tissue Balls, excerpt
This work focuses on the feelings and experiences of nine teenage boys from kibbutzim and moshavim in the Gaza Envelope following the events of October 7, 2023. Over the course of a year-long collaborative process, the participants and I developed a series of actions reflecting their everyday experiences as teenagers living in Israel and in the Gaza Envelope region.
The installation consists of two video channels. In one, the boys attempt to throw tissue-paper balls into trash bins; in the other, two of them repeatedly play the opening riff of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit in a continuous loop. Both channels are interwoven with excerpts from interviews I conducted with the members of the group.
