The video follows the efforts of a 15-year-old girl from the Ajami neighborhood to imitate Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal celebrations, while also confronting religious and familial constraints. Her attempts ultimately fail, yet the use of special effects allows her to transcend both the limits of her physical abilities and the social restrictions that challenge her presence in the film. In this way, the video becomes a mediating force between the girl’s desire and the limitations of reality. At the same time, it renders her visible within the public sphere, even as society and culture seek to erase her.
The video was filmed during a series of meetings with members of the girls’ football team “Jaffa Girls”.
